NFC & QR strategy

From tap to trust: designing an NFC and QR customer journey

A practical framework for turning a physical touchpoint into a clear, neutral and measurable customer journey without adding friction.

An NFC card or QR code is only the beginning. The quality of the experience depends on placement, context, destination design and what the business does after the interaction. This guide explains how Review Pilot connects those parts into one manageable workflow.

01

Start with the customer moment

The best touchpoint appears where the customer naturally pauses: after payment, at a reception desk, on a table or during a handover. It should support the conversation rather than interrupt it. A short, neutral invitation works better than pressure or promises.

Map each physical placement to one clear purpose before ordering products. A reception card may open a review destination, while a counter plate may open a multi-link page. This prevents one generic journey from being forced into every situation.

  • Choose a natural pause in the service journey
  • Give every customer the same neutral invitation
  • Use one clear purpose per placement

02

Make tap and scan equally obvious

NFC is fast for compatible phones, while QR remains familiar and broadly accessible. Showing both creates a resilient experience. The product should be reachable, well lit and positioned so customers can interact without handing over their device.

Staff need one simple explanation they can repeat consistently. They do not need to select customers, judge sentiment or operate the customer’s phone. Review Pilot products keep a permanent address behind both interaction methods.

  • Offer NFC and QR together where possible
  • Avoid hidden or awkward placements
  • Train staff with one neutral sentence

03

Separate the physical product from its destination

A printed QR code and programmed NFC chip should not become obsolete when a campaign or profile changes. Review Pilot uses a permanent redirect address, allowing an authorised user to update the destination from the customer panel without replacing the product.

This separation is operationally important. It lets a business correct a link, change a location assignment or move from a single destination to a Smart Multi experience while preserving the installed hardware.

  • Keep the permanent product address stable
  • Control destination changes through authorised accounts
  • Test every change before public use

04

Activate with clear ownership

Each product must belong to the correct organisation, business and location. Activation codes establish that relationship. Naming products by placement—such as “Zurich reception” or “Table zone A”—makes later support, reporting and replacement decisions much easier.

Access should match responsibility. A location manager may need day-to-day visibility, while destination governance belongs to an owner or administrator. Clear ownership reduces accidental edits and unexplained results.

  • Use meaningful product names
  • Assign the correct business and location
  • Limit editing rights to responsible roles

05

Measure behaviour, not promises

Scan and tap activity indicates whether a touchpoint is being noticed and used. It does not prove customer satisfaction on its own. Compare placements over a meaningful period, record operational changes and interpret review activity alongside the customer experience.

A useful review asks what can be improved: visibility, staff explanation, destination clarity or follow-up responsibility. Review Pilot is designed to support that learning cycle without filtering customers or guaranteeing a rating outcome.

  • Compare like-for-like placements
  • Document changes before interpreting trends
  • Never treat scans as guaranteed reviews

Putting it into practice

A professional NFC and QR journey is calm, transparent and easy to manage. Begin with one well-defined customer moment, verify the destination, observe real usage and expand only when the process is repeatable.
